Library Wall

year: 2010 / at: GSD / studio: 2nd Semester Core /

The premise of this project was to design a library "wall" which contained book stacks, reading carrels, and a facade system. My idea was to subtract a volume of stacks and floorplates within a certain radius of reading carrels positioned along the facade. The stacks are subtracted for two reasons: to create a place of isolation for readers and to allow light to enter the carrel zones through openings on the facade without risking damage to the collection.
